What is the difference between polarized lens tint & photochromic or Transitions®?

Here’s another great question that we’re glad got asked, because on those occasions when customers make mistakes on their orders, choosing polarized lenses when they intended to get photochromic lenses (or vice versa) is probably the number one error we get!

We recently did an in-depth post about the difference between Transitions® and Zenni’s photochromic lenses that you can check out here. So for this post, we’re only going to clarify the difference between the polarized and photochromic.

So what is the difference between polarized lens tint & photochromic or Transition® Lenses?

Polarized lenses are permanently tinted dark. They don’t change color. Polarized lenses greatly reduce glare where most of it occurs: on light, horizontal surfaces, such as white sidewalks, white sand beaches, snow, and sunlight reflecting on the water.

Photochromic lenses (of which Transitions® is the best-known brand) on the other hand, start out clear but turn dark in the bright sunlight. Then when you go back indoors (or stand in the shade or get in a car), they turn clear again.
