| How To Order |
1. Under "Products, Eyeglass Categories," on the upper left of the Home Page, choose and click on a category of your choice.
2. Click on the image of the frame you may be interested in purchasing. All of the frame specifications are given in complete detail for each pair of glasses. Check these dimensions against the glasses you're currently wearing to help assure that you're ordering the right size. Then double click to get the drop-down order form for that frame.
3. Fill out the order form page. If you need more information, click on the blue question mark "help," next to the drop down boxes to get detailed information for each entry.
The top portion of the order form provides for optional choices such as frame color, lens tint, anti-reflective coating and clip-on sunshades.
The next section is comprised of eight data entry fields, four for each eye (OD = top line, right eye, and OS = second line, left eye).
The Sph provides for the depth of the focal plane.
Cyl and Axis are two mutually inclusive measurements which address astigmatism, a condition which may occur in one eye, both eyes or neither eye. Cylinder is the amount of correction needed, and axis is the angle at which it's placed. Many prescriptions will have an "x" in front of the axis number - it does not have to be inlcuded in the order form. It's simply an abbreviated form of "axis." If there is no astigmatism, "sph" is often written in this portion of the prescription and indicates that the eye is spherical (not to be confused with Sph, meaning the depth of the focal distance).
There may or may not be an "Add" (also designated as NV, Near Vision, or Reading Addition). The "Add" may also simply be written in the format of a large positive number located between the OD and the OS lines of your prescription. The presence of such a number indicates that you need visual correction at more than one distance, and generally, you may select a lens prepared either as a lined bi-focal, or a progressive (no-line). We do not prepare lined tri-focal lens.
You may wish to create single vision distance glasses, which you may do by simply leaving off the "Add." To create a single vision reading lens, you combine the "Add" with the Sph, and the resulting number becomes the Sph for single vision reading glasses. You must remember to narrow your PD by 3mm for single vision reading glasses. The Cyl and Axis do not change in either of these conversions, and must be included.
If you have a question about your prescription, we refer you to the drop down entitled "Your Prescription." If that does not resolve your question, you may fax a copy of your prescription to 415.883.7020. Be sure to include your name, your fax number, and your question if you'd like a response. Our call center is extremely busy with incoming calls, so it's often not possible to call you back quickly. Therefore, a fax number by which to reach you is helpful.
The next entry to be made is your Pupillary Distance (see "Your Prescription.")
Finally, the heading "Prescription and Lens Type" provides for the various types of eyeglasses that can be made from a prescription, as well as options for the photochromic lens (lens darkens on exposure to sunlight and returns to clear indoors), or, for very strong single vision prescription, high index lens.
4. When you’ve put the item in the shopping cart, you will be shown a summary page. At that point, check each item entry, the numbers and the polarity, to assure that you’re ordering in accordance with your prescription. If you have made an error, select the “edit” option, and correct the entry. Errors made in ordering will delay receipt of your glasses, at least, and may also result in the production of something which does not suit your purposes.
5. Add to cart
6. Go back to the Eyeglass Categories to continue shopping (click on the option to continue shopping and you will be returned to the Home Page of the website), (if you're ordering more than one pair of glasses, we suggest that you put them in one order so that you won't be charged multiple shipping and handling); and /or
7. Proceed to checkout. You will be asked to provide your personal information, shipping information, and credit card info. Do NOT press the "submit" button more than one time. Doing so will replicate the order and result in multiple charges, for which Zenni Optical is not responsible.
8. When the completed order comes up on the screen, it is adviseable to print out a copy, with the order number. It's a handy record and you may wish to keep this copy in your medicine cabinet for future reference to your order and prescription. If you call the office with any questions, the first item of information that you will need to provide is your order number.
9. You will receive an order confirmation by e.mail, so be sure to check that your e.mail address is correctly entered. Some ISPs block this type of notification as spam, or you may have the security level on your computer set to block such messages, so check your spam folder and settings. If you've done that, and haven't found your confirmation, you are welcome to call our office at 1.800.211.2105 to receive another copy. Please note that the telepone number on the confirmation copy is not current, and cannot simply be removed or changed, due to programming intricacies of the website. Thank you for your understanding of this.
10. Please be advised that you are ordering custom made merchandise, and the industry standard for custom made products, is that they are charged at the inception of the order.
If you press the "submit" button more than one time, or if you go back and forth in the order form, after submission, you may duplicate the order and incur additional charges. Please review your entries carefully before pressing "submit," and press "submit" only one time.
If you find that you have replicated the order, the lab usually picks up such duplications immediately, and voids the inappropriate transactions before they process and before funds are withdrawn from your account. You may receive an "advice of charge," (a reserve on funds) but the funds are not actually removed from your account until the close of the business day. While our credit card processor takes care of the voids within 24 hours, it may take your bank a longer time to return your funds to you, and depending upon the charter of the bank issuing your credit card, you may not be credited back by the bank for up to a billing cycle. Zenni Optical does not have your funds; they are in the possession of your bank. You need to contact them for clarification and replacement of your funds in your account.
11. WE DO NOT ACCEPT MAIL ORDERS, FAXED ORDERS OR TELEPHONE ORDERS. Orders must be placed online using a credit or debit card. We are a website operation and geared for that format only.
12. Please be advised that we will not process international orders unless the billing information and the shipping information are the same. Nor do we process orders with United States credit cards shipping to a foreign address, other than APO deliveries.
13. Because of the high incidence of fraud, we reserve the right to cancel any order that is not credible. The same applies to orders which are obviously so error filled, as to be unlikely to produce a satisfactory product. We will endeavor to obtain the correct information, and if it is not forthcoming in timely fashion, the order will be cancelled and refunded.
