Oh What A Year: The Best (and most stylish) Moments of 2018

We think that it’s safe to say that 2018 had quite a few standout moments. From a royal wedding that was watched around the world, to Beyonce bringing down the house in style at Coachella and the Grammys, as well as on tour (is there anywhere she doesn’t show up in style?), and Lady Gaga proving that she’s a true acting force in the hit movie A Star is Born, this past year was filled with romance, style, and plenty of “OMG!” moments.

As we began looking back at some of our favorite pop culture happenings of the past year, we noticed one underlying theme: many of 2018’s iconic moments included glasses. Over the years, glasses have evolved from a necessity to a fashion accessory. And today matching your frames with your outfit has become as common as matching your shoes with your belt.

Below are our top 5 moments from 2018 and the glasses that helped to make them oh-so-memorable.

1. Carpool Karaoke with Migos

James Corden’s wildly popular Carpool Karaoke has featured plenty of musical icons, including Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Paul McCartney, and Bruno Mars. This year’s standout episode featured Migos rapping to the group’s hits “Bad and Boujee” and “Walk It Talk It,” as well as performing classic songs by Whitney Houston and Neil Diamond. Our favorite part was when the band gave host James Corden a makeover complete with an oversized silver jacket and clear framed sunglasses.

2. John Oliver Backstage at the Emmy Awards

John Oliver kept the jokes coming in 2018 with his Emmy-winning late night talk show “Last Week Tonight” on HBO. The comedian has has quickly become as well known for his signature black glasses as he has for being one of the funniest people on TV. His backstage interview at this past year’s Emmys had everyone laughing and made him one of the most entertaining interviewees of the night.

3. Beyonce Style Statement at the Grammy Awards

Beyonce went into this year’s Grammys as the most nominated artist, and she did it in style like only a true icon could. Queen B wore a stunning black dress, oversized hat, and sunglasses that she kept on the entire night, causing quite the fashion stir. The thin cat-eye sunglasses not only showed up on Beyonce during her sold out Lemonade tour, but also became the must-have frame of the year.

4. Female Stars Wearing Glasses at the Oscars

The Oscars are practically as famous for what the stars wear as they are for what movies actually win the awards. This year’s show saw some of Hollywood’s biggest female stars wearing their glasses on the red carpet and up on stage while presenting. Lupita Nyong’o, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, and others all proudly wore their glasses at the 90th annual Academy Awards, causing a social media stir begging more women to wear their glasses at future award shows.

5. David Beckham at the Royal Wedding

The marriage of actress Meghan Markle to Britain’s Prince Harry was easily the most talked about event of 2018. From the bride’s gown to the Prince’s giant smile when she entered the church, it was a true fairytale event. Yet, before the ceremony even began, people were buzzing about one very stylish attendee: David Beckham. Known for his impeccable style, Beckham earned the title of best-dressed guest when he arrived wearing a retro pair of browline tortoiseshell sunglasses.
