5 Reasons We Love Ultra-Violet!

Each year since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute selects a much-anticipated Color of the Year. Pantone’s color experts take into account the culture of the time, art, fashion, film, socioeconomic conditions, and more. Then they choose a color they feel distills down all those feelings and influences.

How influential is Pantone’s Color of the Year? You’ll find it used throughout the fashion world, product packaging, paint colors, home goods, graphics … even eyeglasses.

For the year 2018, Pantone’s Color of the Year is Ultra Violet.

As Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman wrote: “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

At Zenni Optical, we’ve got plenty of reasons to love Ultra Violet. Here are just a few:

Every Decade Has Its Purple Icon

In the 1970s, Jimi Hendrix tore up the guitar with his psychedelic “Purple Haze.” The ’80s brought Prince’s enigmatic “Purple Rain” album, which remains particularly iconic with the tragic death of “the artist formerly known as.” In the 1990s, Latina singer Selena brought it with the sexy sparkle of a bright purple outfit. And we celebrated the first decade of the “aughts” with the grape-hued iPod … and all that the Apple technology had to offer at the time.

So it’s fitting then that this decade pays homage to the mystique of Ultra Violet, which the Pantone Institute associates with mindfulness practices, “which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s overstimulated world.”
