Zenni Video Contest – Third Place Winner!

Robb Preis of Ellicott City, Md., and Mark Wieland of Catonsville, Md., co-wrote and directed a video that made the panel laugh watching Mark constructing his own pair of not-ready-for-prime-time – or anytime – glasses. Mark was chosen to be the performer because, they said, “We wanted to use a relative unknown, as we felt that an A-list actor would detract from the subtleties of the story.

Check out their video below and let us know what you think!

Getting to know our winners:

Zenni: Did you write, direct, and perform in the video?
Robb & Mark: Yes, Robb and Mark wrote, directed, preformed, edited and downloaded the video. We then went on a hunger-strike until we heard back… The holidays sucked.

Zenni: Who were the actors in the video?
Robb & Mark: Mark, the co-director was the self-described “talent” in the video. We wanted to use a relative unknown as we felt that an A-list actor would detract from subtleties of the story.

Zenni: How long did the shoot take?
Robb & Mark: It depends if you count the trips in a snowstorm to a store, or let’s call it a “shack” (that at some point may -or may not have- sold “radios”) for cable adaptors.

Zenni: Did any funny or weird or troublesome things happen on the shoot?
Robb & Mark: Well, we are both probably going to die a bit earlier due to the ceiling insulation that we inhaled while trying to mic the sound. That’s funny, right?

Zenni: What were the special challenges you faced in making this video?
Robb & Mark: Oh, there were challenges… But we laugh at challenges! (It doesn’t get anything accomplished though.)

Zenni: Have you won in other contests before?
Robb & Mark: Robb once guessed there were 301 Tootsie Rolls™ in a jar. He won the Tootsie Rolls. And the jar.

Zenni: How did you come up with idea for your video?
Robb & Mark: It’s loosely based on a famous Shakespeare play about a guy in his basement making glasses with electric power tools.

Zenni: If you had only two words to describe Zenni Optical what words would you use?
Robb & Mark: The best two words to describe Zenni Optical? That would have to be… “Zenni Optical”

Zenni: Why do you wear glasses?
Robb & Mark: While it is often underrated, we find that being able to see is quite convenient.

Zenni: How will you spend the money?
Robb & Mark: If we won the grand prize Mark was going to put his kids through community college. But since we won 4th place he is going to spend it on beer. You think about that when you try to sleep tonight, judges.

Questions about the crew:

Zenni: Do you actually make things in your garage or elsewhere. If so, have they come out better than the glasses?
Robb & Mark: These glasses are on par for what is produced in this workshop. We are thinking about producing and selling them for $6.94

Zenni: How was the one big eye one little eye effect created?
Robb & Mark: We have no idea what you are talking about…
