Seeing is Believing: Test Your Blokz with Blue Light Pen
If you’re an avid reader of the Zenni blog, you’ve heard us talk a lot about our Blokz™ blue blocker lenses. Blokz can be added to almost any pair of Zenni glasses to help protect your eyes from harmful UV and blue light emitted from digital screens, artificial light and the sun. And, yes, they really do make a difference! That’s why the San Francisco 49ers, the Golden Guardians esports team, the Chicago Bulls, and actress Rashida Jones all wear them.
One of the coolest parts about offering Blokz is getting to demonstrate in person how the lenses block out harmful light using a blue light laser pen. Since we can’t personally visit each and every one of you, we decided to do the next best thing and offer a Zenni blue light laser pen that you can use at home, so you can see for yourself how your Blokz block blue light. The blue light laser pen emits 405 ± 10 nm blue light to help illustrate the blue-light-blocking qualities of Blokz.
How to Use the Blokz Blue Light Pen
Before using your new laser pen, you first need to unscrew the top and peel off the sticky disc cover that is over the battery to activate it. Next, place your Blokz glasses on a table against a light color. Press the button on the laser pointer to emit a beam of high energy visible (HEV) blue light, and point it at the Blokz lenses. Watch as the Blokz lenses block out the blue light. Try the laser pen with other glasses (even sunglasses) to test if they protect from HEV blue light. Without blue blocker protection, the blue light beam will shine right through the lens.
Please note: when using on photochromic lenses, the laser beam will darken the lens temporarily.
When using the Blokz blue light pen, there are a few important safety measures: This is not a toy! Keep out of reach of children.
- Don’t aim the laser beam into the eye or look into the aperture of the pointer.
- Never aim or shine the laser pointer at anyone.
- Don’t test the laser beam on Blokz lenses while wearing them, since small amounts of blue light may still pass through the lens.
