How to Use Your FSA/HSA

Save up to 30% on eyewear using your pre-tax FSA or HSA dollars

FSAs and HSAs are employer-sponsored programs that let you set aside pre-tax money for eligible healthcare expenses. You can use your benefits in one of two ways:

  • Pay directly with your FSA or HSA card

Use your FSA or HSA card at checkout, just like a credit card. You'll save instantly since you're using pre-tax dollars—no reimbursement needed.

  • Pay now, get reimbursed later

If you used another payment method, you can still use your FSA or HSA benefits. Download your invoice after purchase in My Account or Track My Order and submit it to your FSA/HSA provider for reimbursement.

  • Don't let your benefits expire or go unused!

Most FSA plans require you to submit reimbursement claims by December 31 or March 31. Be sure to check your plan details and deadlines. HSA funds never expire.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, we don’t process insurance claims directly, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use your benefits! Most major vision insurance providers—including VSP, EyeMed, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare—accept receipts for out-of-network reimbursement. All you have to do is download your Zenni invoice and submit it to your provider. You can find this in "Orders" under My Account, or use Track My Order if you checked out as a guest.

Prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses, and over-the-counter readers are typically fully covered by FSA and HSA funds. You can also use your benefits for eye exams at your local optometrist. Cleaning supplies for prescription eyewear, eyeglass cases and accessories (including clip-ons), and repair kits for eyeglasses are sometimes covered with FSA and HSA funds. We recommend you double check with your plan whether your purchase is eligible for FSA/HSA reimbursement. Please note: FSA and HSA benefits are available to U.S. customers only.

Prescription sunglasses and over-the-counter reading glasses are typically FSA/HSA eligible. However, we recommend checking with your plan to confirm specific eligibility requirements.

No limit, you can purchase as many pairs as your FSA, HSA, or vision insurance balance allows. If you have extra funds before the year ends, you can stock up on backup pairs so your savings don’t go to waste!

Returns work the same way whether you paid with an FSA/HSA card or another payment method. Please keep in mind that some FSA cards do not allow for refunds if the card or benefits window has expired. We recommend that you check with your provider first, or opt for store credit to pick out a new pair instead. For full details, read our return policy here.

For FSA: Most plans require reimbursement submissions by December 31 or March 31, but deadlines vary by plan. Check with your provider to confirm your specific deadline so you don't miss out on savings.

For HSA: Your funds do not expire and you can reimburse yourself at any time as long as you have your valid receipt to submit.

For vision insurance: Claim deadlines vary by provider—some are as short as 90 days, while others allow up to 12–15 months. Your benefits may also reset annually. Submit your claim as soon as possible and check with your insurance provider for specific deadlines and benefit renewal periods.
