In a year when we’ve learned to expect the unexpected, Pantone went and switched it up on us by announcing not one but two colors of the year for 2021. And they’re not colors we would have guessed – grey and yellow! This is only the second time in Pantone’s history that two colors have been selected.
What does it mean having two colors chosen to define the year ahead? Only good things if you ask us! Ultimate Gray is practical and rock solid, while Illuminating is warming and optimistic. Combined they represent strength and positivity – and we’re all for those things in any aspect of life. Since Pantone’s Color of the Year sets the tone for upcoming designs in everything from home decor to tech, beauty, and fashion, we can’t wait to see more of this uplifting color combination in the months ahead.
Frames Inspired By 2021’s Colors
What better way to kick off a new year filled with strength and positivity than with a fresh new pair of frames. We thought we’d pay homage to 2021’s Color(s) of the Year with some Zenni frames already showcasing the dynamic color duo. Now we aren’t saying that we knew grey and yellow were going to define 2021, but we have always known they look stellar together.
A Little History on Pantone
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Pantone, they are essentially the experts on all things color-related. Their Color Institute has a small team of experts whose job is dedicated to traveling the world looking for new color influences in everything from entertainment and movies, to fashion, art, new technologies and even sporting events. They look at more than just color, they research how color influences human thought processes, emotions, and physical reactions. They then use their research to determine what will be the next Color of the Year, which is announced every December.
