Unlike traditional optometry operations and other websites that offer prescription eyeglasses, Zenni owns a 248,000 square-foot manufacturing facility that houses state-of-the-art Rx and Edging Labs. All customer orders are produced in our own factory with state-of-the-art optical machinery and sophisticated quality control procedures.

Zenni Frame Design & Production

The Zenni team transforms sheets of strong, lightweight, flexible, and hypoallergenic acetate into fashion-forward frames by first creating the design with CAD software, then milling the frames in the automatic 5-Axis CNC machine, and finishing the frames by giving them a good polish.

Zenni’s Prescription Labs are equipped with the most advanced machinery supplied by the world’s leading optical machine manufacturers, including Schneider and Satisloh.

The Rx lab handles every kind of prescription, including complex digital progressive surfaces, which are calculated by proprietary computer programs. The Rx lab is also responsible for creating hard coating, anti-reflective coating within designated clean room areas of the factory, and lens tinting.

Edging Labs

Accurate edging is as important as creating the correct surfaces for your lenses. Using state-of-the-art edging machines, our skilled technicians ensure that all lenses are cut and assembled to your frames with accurate measurement of your pupillary distance and segment height. The edging lab is also responsible for final assembly and shaping of glasses before each pair is quality checked.

Quality Control

Every order of eyeglasses goes through several stages of quality control. At each step of the manufacturing process, the Rx Lab and the Edging Lab run multiple quality checks, including scoping the prescriptions after surface generation and checking for defects after each of the coating and tinting steps. The final QC checks for all defects and ensures that each eyeglass prescription matches its original order before releasing it for shipping.

After each pair of glasses is manufactured and passed through the stringent quality control process, it is carefully packed into a Zenni eyeglasses case with a complimentary lens cloth. Every day our factory sends out 7,000 pairs of prescription eyeglasses through UPS, FedEx, USPS, and other courier services bound for more than eighty countries in the world.
