Sunglasses Guide

Yes, we offer a few options for non-prescription sunglasses. The most flexible option is to find sunglasses frames or eyeglasses frames you like, then customize the lenses with your tint of choice. We also offer stylish and trendy ready-made non-prescription sunglasses, though note that you can’t customize the lenses or tints on these.

Yes, all sunglasses lenses that Zenni offers come with complete UVA/UVB protection, regardless of lens color or tint darkness.

Yes. To find compatible frames, select progressives or bifocals in the filter menu while shopping. Or, browse frames we’ve pre-selected as optimal for this kind of prescription, then follow the steps in the FAQ below: “How do I order prescription sunglasses?”
Note that some of our sunglasses frames cannot be customized with a bifocal or progressive prescription because of the curvature of the lens.

While light-adapting (a.k.a. photochromic) lenses do offer UV protection and visual comfort when they darken outside, we recommend a dedicated pair of sunglasses if you’re frequently in bright sunlight. If you’re looking for a pair of sunglasses that can adapt between cloudy dim days or bright sunny days, Transitions® Drivewear® sunglasses adapt by turning from an olive green base tint to a darker copper or brown tint in bright daylight. (Note: Drivewear® lenses do not return to clear indoors. They are always sunglasses.)

Almost all Zenni frames can be customized as sunglasses with your choice of lens type and color. The exceptions are select styles of our non-prescription sunglasses, which come pre-designed with a preset frame color and lens that doesn’t allow for customization. (Shopping tip: Non-customizable sunglasses will have a style number that starts with a letter “T”.)

Our flexible options let you create an affordable pair of prescription sunglasses that are uniquely you. There are a handful of steps, so here’s a quick overview of a typical customization experience:

1. Find frames you love that are the right size for your face and prescription. Our Pupillary Distance tool and Virtual Try-on can help with this!
2. Click/tap “Select Lenses” and choose “Prescription” and follow the steps to add your prescription details.
3. Choose “Sunglasses”, then you’ll choose your sunglasses lens type, lens index (i.e. lens thickness), tint category, and tint color. Your choices will be previewed in your frames.
4. Add any special coatings, like anti-reflective or anti-fog.
5. Next, you can choose to add a custom engraving to the temple arm.
6. Hit finish and add your sunglasses to your cart! You can always go back and make changes by selecting “edit” in the cart.

If the eyeglasses frames you selected are compatible with our clip-on shades, you will see the option to add them to your order right after you choose your lens type (the same step where you can add custom engraving). You can also shop clip-on compatible frame sets here!

No, we do not offer this customization option. Both lenses in a pair of sunglasses must be the same color.

While we don’t offer tinted reading glasses as a standard option, if you order glasses with your reading prescription, you can choose to add a tint to your lenses as a customization option. Some of our clip-on compatible frames are also customizable as readers, giving you the flexibility to wear your reading glasses comfortably inside or outside.

Some frames, particularly premium sunglasses, Zunnies sports sunglasses or branded frames, may have restrictions on available lenses or tints due to their specifications. However, we are proud to offer more customization options for these types of glasses than most other retailers.
